Section 1). Rockwell Automation Technology

ControlLogix® 1756 Compute Module: Add Windows 10 IoT Enterprise functionality to your ControlLogix controller.

Data is in smart devices, on machines, and across plant floors. The closer you get to the data when decisions are made, the more valuable the data becomes. You can now drive efficiency through the production process in real time, which is why Rockwell Automation has integrated compute functionality in a range of devices. This functionality allows you to get more from your machines and equipment, on the machine, where the decisions can be made. Scalable computing technology gives you the power to get closer to the data whatever your production requirement, from building a new high-performance machine to the enhancement of your capability and productivity. The ControlLogix® 1756 Compute Module is coming soon…

The Studio 5000® environment combines engineering and design elements into one standard framework that enables optimized productivity and reduced commissioning time. Version 31 brings added functionality:

–Improved structured text and Function Block Diagram (FBD) programming
–Multimonitor support
–Improved look and feel for increased productivity

With the Studio 5000 environment, you can respond more quickly to changing market and business needs, while reducing total costs of ownership, including maintenance and training.

Bulletin 450L GuardShield™ POC safety light curtains are unlike traditional safety light curtains, which are based on separate transmitter and receiver units. This next generation light curtain system features patented technology, which allows each transceiver to be used as a transmitter or receiver via an innovative plug-in module. This advanced technology greatly reduces stock and provides a flexible, cost-effective safety solution.

Bulletin 5069 CompactLogix 5480 controllers are real-time controllers with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise running in parallel to the Logix control engine. *** Scheduled to launch in 2018***

The CompactLogix 5480 uses the same re-architected control engine deployed in the ControlLogix® 5580 and CompactLogix 5380 controllers. This line of Logix controllers supports embedded Windows applications, such as analytics, data gathering, and predictive computations. Read more about application uses for 5069 CompactLogix 5480 controllers in section 4, below.

Are you using push-in style terminal blocks for your wiring applications? What do you use for wire types? Solid? Stranded? Or terminated with a ferrule? If you have a need for ferrule wiring connections on your terminal blocks, be on the lookout in 2018 for the NEW 1492-P series of terminal blocks from Rockwell Automation. This engineered system is made possible with Strategic Alliance partner Panduit.

Typically, ferrule-based wiring connections on your terminal blocks is a necessity in medium to large control panels. When you use stranded wire, a technician will need to press an actuator to open a clamp for each connection. This process may need be repeated hundreds or even thousands of times. Ferrule-based wiring connections on your terminal blocks can reduce wiring time by 50% or more.

The 1492-P series of terminal blocks from Rockwell Automation will be a universal offering. They are a great fit for control power distribution as well as for sensor/signal wiring. Stay tuned to this space for updates.

Rack & Pinion Systems from Apex Dynamics

Rack and pinion systems can replace ball screw systems with longer travel capability without adding inertia and offer higher force capability. Linear motors can also be replaced with rack and pinion to provide lower cost and similar performance in many applications. Highly accurate systems for machine tools and measurement systems can be engineered with rack and pinion. Consider if you will other motion systems:

  • Ball screws can accommodate a stroke length of, maximum, 1.5 meters
  • Belts can go further than that, 20ft maybe 30ft… but the longer you get, the more you need splice kits, and issues will arise
  • Rack and Pinion can solidly go out to, theoretically, an infinite length
  • Additionally, Rack and Pinion systems offer independently moving carriages
  • What do independently moving carriages look like? VIDEO HERE

Are you working in a panel shop? A machine builder? Perhaps you’re in an industrial plant as an electrical technician? Are you working on control panels most days? How many control wires do you think you touch in a given day… Dozens? Hundreds?

Did you read above about the NEW 1492-P series of terminal blocks from Rockwell Automation? These terminal blocks are engineered to work together with Panduit ferrules. Typically, ferrule-based wiring connections on your terminal blocks is a necessity in medium to large control panels. Panduit has a wide range of ferrules available for these types of applications. Browse ferrules by wire size, wire type, and more.
