Section 2). Automation and Pneumatics Applications
Many machine designers and machine builders have a need for increased performance from smaller, more energy efficient machines. SMC continues to invest in developing smaller, more compact, energy efficient components for factory automation applications. The CQ2 Series of standard pneumatic actuators was recently redesigned and improved and provides the flexibility you require to succeed:
- Over forty (40) standard options
- Six (6) mounting types
- Excellent auto switch mounting positionability
- Overall reduction of cylinder weight of between 5 -13%
- Available in 15 bore sizes from 12mm – 200mm (depending on your selected model)
Reduce size and improve your machines’ performance with the most flexible compact cylinder range from SMC.
Accumulated static electricity causes problems in the manufacturing environment. Plastic wrap, foam packing, or labels cling and attract dust and dirt, causing misapplication or contamination. Excess static charge damages sensitive electronic components. Learn more about how products like bar ionizers, nozzle ionizers, fan Ionizers, desktop duster boxes and static sensors can help you improve the quality of your product and the comfort and safety of personnel.
Section 3). Automation Partner Solutions
Hard guarding solutions can help improve machine safety. Matrix Guard is a specific line of OSHA and robotic-industry-safety-standard-compliant machine guarding fencing from Husky Rack & Wire. It is a flexible and modular system, and Horizon Solutions can quote piece by piece, or we can develop a custom layout and bill of materials for you.

The National Electrical Code (NEC®) requires proper equipment and machinery short-circuit protection and is critical for worker safety. Proper planning in the design phase can avoid jobsite corrections, and often can result in a minimal-to-no impact on design, layout and material costs. A packaging equipment OEM had a project that needed a 65,000A Short-Circuit Current Rating (SCCR). Working with Eaton’s Bussmann division, an SCCR analysis of their design was performed that identified several “weak link” components that limited the panel’s SCCR to just 5,000A.
This case study breaks down the SCCR analysis made for this project, highlight how the solutions were determined, and use what the OEM learned to demonstrate how proper planning can help achieve SCCR compliance with the NEC.
